The forest behind our preschool is a favorite place for the children to go. We walk there together holding hands, taking care of one another and learning about safety. A fact of living in Powell River is the logging of trees. Lately we've heard machinery behind our school. We knew that some parts of the forest behind our building were going to be cut down.
The children weren't happy to see some of the trees gone, but we have been watching the changes as the undergrowth begins to grow, and see new life and new kinds of plants emerging. But we still have lots of wonderful forest to wander and play in, and the moment we get to the edge of the forest the children are free to go! They run with such enthusiam and joy, I'm sure their voices can be heard throughout the neighbourhood. They ask every day if we can go to the forest, a very special place.
